LIST OF FORBIDDEN SUBSTANCES AND METHODS FOR DOGS

EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1994.

 

 

 

Copied unamended from the "List of Forbidden Substances and Methods for Dogs" of the International Federation of Sled-Dog Sports Inc as obtained January 1994.

 

 

1         No injectable, oral or topical drug or method which may suppress the signs of illness or injury may be administered to a dog.  No other drug or artificial means may be used to drive a dog or cause a dog to perform or attempt to perform beyond its natural ability.

 

2         The following substances are prohibited:

 

            2.1        Analgesics (prescriptive and non‑prescriptive)

            2.2        Anti‑inflammatory agents including, but not limited to:

            2.2.1 Steroids

            2.2.2 Anti‑prostaglandins

            2.2.3 Salicylates

            2.2.4 Non-Steroids

 

            2.3        Central nervous system stimulants

            2.4        Sedatives/Anaesthetics

            2.5        Cough suppressants

            2.6        Diuretics

            2.7        Anabolic Steroids

            2.8        Muscle relaxants

            2.9        Injectable anti-colenergics

            2.10        Anti-histamines

 

3         The external use of DMSO and Topical Cortico-Steroids are limited to the use on feet only, in foot ointments, and provided by an official Race Veterinarian.  The use of local anaesthetics is not prohibited when, by the discretion of an official Race Veterinarian, the use is justified and without potential risk to the dog.

 

4         The use of nutritient shots are prohibited unless administered by an official Race Veterinarian.

 

5         Official Race Veterinarians may administer to a dog any of the prohibited substances and methods, after having withdrawn the dog from the race.

 

6         Personal prescriptions issued to and carried by the competitor may not be used unless approved of by an official Race Veterinarian.
